Gastroscopy is not recommended when you have a cold.
Cold is usually manifested as nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat, sneezing, etc. Gastroscopy through the pharynx itself will be uncomfortable, cold can make the pharyngeal sensitivity increase, which can aggravate the discomfort of gastroscopy, leading to the patient difficult to tolerate gastroscopy.
General anesthesia is required for painless gastroscopy, and general anesthesia can cause an increase in tracheal secretions, which can be increased with a cold, and general anesthesia will not allow the tracheal secretions to be discharged on its own, which may lead to asphyxiation, aspiration pneumonia, and so on.
Gastroscopy is not recommended when you have a cold. If you have a cold and a stomach emergency at the same time, your doctor will evaluate whether it is feasible to have a gastroscopy; if you have a chronic stomach condition, it is recommended to have a gastroscopy after the cold gets better.
