Why iodophor should not be used too often

Frequent use of povidone-iodine may cause allergies and may also lead to dehydration of the skin.
Povidone-iodine has a pronounced oxidative disinfectant effect and is one of the more commonly used disinfectant liquids in clinical surgery, usually applied to the surface of the skin for disinfectant treatment. Although povidone-iodine is not as irritating as alcohol or iodine, it can cause localized skin irritation if used frequently.
It is easy to damage the skin stratum corneum, so that the barrier function of the skin decreases, which may cause local skin allergic reactions, such as redness, swelling, itching and other uncomfortable symptoms.
Due to the strong hypertonic effect of iodophor, frequent use can easily lead to local skin dehydration, wrinkling, shedding, and may also inhibit cell growth, affecting wound healing, so iodophor should not be used frequently.
If you experience discomfort after frequent use of povidone-iodine, it is recommended that you go to the hospital to find out the cause of the problem and then under the guidance of a doctor.
