Zhen Wu Tang treats abdominal distension by warming yang and inducing diuresis (replenishing yang qi in the body and promoting the circulation of water and fluids), and this medicine is effective in treating abdominal distension caused by yang deficiency and water overflow.
Zhen Wu Tang is from the Treatise on Typhoid Fever, a basic formula for treating Yang deficiency of the spleen and kidneys and overflow of water and dampness. This formula is based on the use of Radix Aconiti, which is effective in warming the kidneys to help Yang, transforming Qi to move water and warming the spleen, and Poria cocos and Atractylodes Macrocephalae, which are effective in inducing water and seepage of dampness and strengthening the spleen to dry dampness, and the use of Ginger and Paeonia lactiflora, which enable this formula to treat abdominal distension through the use of warming the kidneys and inducing water circulation.
Zhen Wu Tang is mainly used to treat Yang deficiency and water retention syndrome, in which the patient usually suffers from unsteadiness, heavy and painful limbs, swelling, abdominal pain and diarrhea, dysuria, coldness, palpitation and restlessness.
Although the side effects of Zhenwu Tang are not clear, patients should not use it indiscriminately, but must combine with their own conditions and use it under the guidance of a doctor.
