What is epilepsy? What are the symptoms?

Epilepsy is an ancient and common disease, commonly known as “sheep epilepsy” in folklore. Because the symptoms of the disease are specific and the cause is not known to most people, there is a great deal of misunderstanding and prejudice about the disease, causing great mental stress to patients and their families, who live in the shadows, often feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. In fact, epilepsy is just a common chronic neurological disorder that can be caused by a variety of reasons, characterized by abnormal excessive discharge of central neurons causing recurrent, transient brain dysfunction, which can manifest as abnormalities in consciousness, behavior, sensation, emotion, or autonomic nerves. In layman’s terms, apart from the most common phenomena such as sudden loss of consciousness, falling to the ground, limb convulsions, foaming at the mouth, tongue biting, incontinence, etc., seizures can also have a variety of other symptoms such as daze, involuntary movement of limbs, wandering around, etc. The site of abnormal discharge determines the seizure performance and type.
