What does heterogeneous cell clusters nest mean

Heterogeneous cell clusters are a pathologic description that generally refers to abnormal clusters of cells, most often seen in squamous cell carcinoma. In gynecology, this description is common in squamous carcinoma of the cervix, and the cytology presented by the general pathologic findings may have a glandular-cystic type, showing microcystic cavities of varying sizes, glandular ducts, or papillary structures. Characteristic bootstrap-like cells may also be present in this group, and if the cytologic description is of a realistic somatic type, then a diffuse distribution of nested clusters is present. If a mixed pattern is present, then a mixed morphologic arrangement is distributed. A report of cells arranged in nests often suggests that the cells are not normal and prompt medical attention is recommended.
