April 15-21 is the 17th national tumor prevention and treatment publicity week. April 14, the Beijing Municipal Health Bureau reminded the public through the media that the annual incidence rate of colorectal cancer in Beijing, Shanghai and other major cities has been as high as 30/100,000-40/100,000, reaching or exceeding the average level of western developed countries, and colorectal cancer has become the second most prevalent malignant tumor after lung cancer. According to experts, in recent years, due to the improvement of living standard and westernization of lifestyle, the incidence rate of colorectal cancer in China has reached 4.2%. What is of particular concern is that there are 3 characteristics of the rise of colorectal cancer in China – younger, more rectal cancer, and more low rectal cancer. The age of high incidence of colorectal cancer in China is generally 50-60 years old, which is 10 years earlier than the average in western countries. In Western countries, 70% of colorectal cancer cases are colon cancer and 30% are rectal cancer; in China, on the contrary, 30% are colon cancer and 70% are rectal cancer, while rectal cancer treatment is more complicated because of issues such as preservation of anus by patients. In rectal cancer, and 70% of cases are low rectal cancer, most patients are at risk of not being able to retain their anus. Experts believe that obese people, people on high-protein, high-calorie, low-fiber diets, people with a family history of colorectal cancer, and people with a history of intestinal polyps and family history are high-risk groups for colorectal cancer. These people should have regular medical checkups at professional medical institutions.
