Ischemic white matter lesions are one type of white matter lesion and are now thought to be associated with hypertension, ischaemic stroke and cognitive decline. Most patients with ischaemic leukoencephalopathy may also have no obvious clinical manifestations in the early stages, with symptoms such as cognitive decline occurring as the condition worsens.
