How to Perform Functional Exercises for Scaphoid Fractures

Functional exercises for scapular fracture are different according to the different treatments such as conservative treatment and surgery. 1. Conservative treatment: If the fracture is low and not displaced, and the treatment plan of conservative treatment is chosen, about two weeks after the fracture, the fracture part may grow a little bit more firm, and you can slowly practice forward flexion, backward extension, abduction and adduction of the shoulder joint, and you have to be gradual and progressive in doing the movements, and you can’t use violent stretching to prevent the fracture from being displaced. 2. Surgery: After surgery, if the shoulder joint is well fixed, you can do some hand exercises, such as making a fist and other simple movements 1 to 3 days after surgery. After 1 week after surgery, the upper body can try to flex to the affected side. 2~3 weeks after surgery, a fibrous connection can be formed, and passive training can be carried out in all directions of the shoulder joint, and the amount of passive training can be increased and active training can be tried in 4~6 weeks. When performing functional exercises, attention should be paid to the protection of the affected area to avoid secondary injury.
