What causes a cracked heel?

Common causes of cracked heels include overly dry skin, fungal infections, trauma, frostbite, and more. The specific causes are as follows: 1. The skin is too dry. This type of patients often do not wear socks for a long time or there is a vitamin E deficiency. This will make the skin at the heel very dry, and then easy to appear here cracking. 2. Fungal infection. These patients often have a long history of fungal infections of the feet, i.e. tinea pedis. This causes the skin on the heel to thicken and become more brittle. The patient then develops the symptoms described above. 3. Trauma. These patients tend to be involved in strenuous activities or have suffered direct friction injuries to the heel, which may lead to breakage and cracking of the skin on the heel. 4. Frostbite. These patients may expose their feet to the cold for a long time, causing frostbite on the heel. This will cause cracking, cyanosis, itching and pain. It is recommended that the lesion be sterilized with povidone-iodine and bandaged with gauze. After this the patient should go to the orthopedic department in time.
