There is no clear research evidence that Mycoplasma positivity causes tics.
Mycoplasma positivity indicates that the patient has an infection with Mycoplasma, a conditionally pathogenic bacterium, but there is no definitive research evidence that Mycoplasma positivity causes tic disorders.
The cause of Tourette’s syndrome is not clinically clear, but in recent years research findings have suggested that the disorder may be associated with neurobiochemical alterations, neurophysiologic abnormalities, psychological factors, environmental factors, and genetic factors.
The prognosis for some patients with Tourette’s syndrome is relatively good, with symptoms resolving after puberty, but others have symptoms that persist into adulthood or even throughout their lives. However, such disorders do not have a serious impact on the life expectancy or IQ of the patients.
If there are unexplained recurrent tics, early and standardized treatment is recommended to minimize the adverse effects of the disorder.
