Simeglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) analog indicated for glycemic control in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus; adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who continue to have poor glycemic control despite treatment with metformin and/or sulfonylureas based on dietary control and exercise. It is indicated to reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (cardiovascular death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, or nonfatal stroke) in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus associated with cardiovascular disease. Common adverse reactions to this drug include gastrointestinal reactions such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Contraindications include hypersensitivity to this drug, personal past medical history or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma, and patients with type 2 multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome. Simeglutide should be used under medical supervision and should not be used on its own.
