Incidence of epilepsy in China



The incidence of epilepsy in China is about 7 per 1,000, and the male-to-female ratio is roughly (1.15-1.7):1.

Epilepsy is a chronic brain disease caused by abnormal power generation of neurons in the brain, which is characterized by suddenness, recurrence and transience. Its main clinical symptoms include loss of consciousness, generalized convulsions, spasms or muscle tonus.

Epilepsy is mainly caused by congenital genetic factors or acquired factors (such as tumors, traumatic brain injury, etc.), and about 400,000 new patients are added every year; although its incidence rate is not high, but once suffering from epilepsy, it will cause great pain in life. Therefore, when epilepsy is detected, it is recommended to consult a doctor for specialized treatment in order to effectively control the related symptoms, so as to avoid delaying the condition.
