MDS, or myelodysplastic syndrome, can progress to acute myeloid leukemia, which is relatively serious.
Myelodysplastic syndromes are a heterogeneous group of myeloid clonal disorders originating from hematopoietic stem cells. In severe cases, it can progress to acute myeloid leukemia. Conversion to acute myeloid leukemia is associated with a short course and poor outcome, and may even lead to death.
The treatment of AML is divided into general treatment, surgical treatment, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Without special treatment, the average survival of patients is only about a few months, or even death within a few days, while life can be prolonged after active and standardized treatment.
Patients should seek timely medical attention and early treatment after developing myelodysplastic syndrome or leukemia to avoid aggravation of the condition.
