Precautions for patients with tuberculosis

Patients with tuberculosis often ask their doctors: What should I take care of? What should I eat and what should I not eat? Usually, TCM doctors tell patients that there are many contraindications: no seafood, no chicken, etc. There are many things that they cannot eat, but nothing seems to make sense. Western doctors, on the other hand, usually say that everything can be eaten and there are no contraindications. Neither of these statements is true. There are some diets that do have adverse effects on people with TB. For example, there are some conditions that can cause or worsen hemoptysis in TB patients. Examples are as follows: 1. Eat hot or tonic drugs or food: Some patients think they have tuberculosis and are weak, so they should take tonic, so they eat ginseng, gum and other tonic products, but this is completely wrong. According to the theory of Chinese medicine, tuberculosis is a Yin deficiency and internal heat, so it is not suitable to take hot or tonic medicines or foods. In addition, the first thing to do when you have a disease is to remove the evil from your body, and blind and unreasonable “tonic” will make the evil stay in your body and not be easily removed. I have encountered patients with hemoptysis after taking these: ginseng, dog meat, mutton hotpot, aconite, lychee, cinnamon. If a patient really wants to take a tonic, they must also consult a TCM doctor and ask what they can eat. Cordyceps is better for the lungs, but it is too expensive for patients who can afford to take it, and it does not matter if they can not afford to eat it, anti-tuberculosis western medicine is the key to cure the disease. 2, strenuous exercise: There was a patient with tuberculosis who thought he had tuberculosis because of poor physical fitness and should strengthen his exercise, so he went running in the acute phase of tuberculosis, resulting in hemoptysis and the spread of tuberculosis lesions in the lungs, and survived only after resuscitation. 3, eat very hot food: such as hot pot. 4, taking very hot baths, taking baths with very hot water, taking saunas: because these cause vasodilation throughout the body, and the vasodilation in the TB site may lead to hemoptysis. For patients with tuberculosis, the most important thing is early diagnosis, early treatment and regular treatment. The precautions for patients with tuberculosis are summarized as follows: 1. Seek medical attention as soon as possible when symptoms are detected. If a small hospital fails to treat the patient for a long time, he or she needs to be referred to a higher level hospital as soon as possible. 2. Start regular treatment with anti-tuberculosis drugs (Western medicine) as soon as possible after diagnosis. Please remember that it is impossible to cure tuberculosis with Chinese medicine alone. 3.If discomfort occurs during treatment, seek medical attention promptly. It may be a toxic side effect of anti-TB drugs and needs to be handled properly by an experienced doctor. 4.If some serious symptoms occur, such as hemoptysis, high fever, sudden chest pain followed by shortness of breath and difficulty in breathing, you need to go to the hospital outpatient or emergency clinic immediately. If hemoptysis occurs, you must immediately seek emergency medical attention, preferably in the prone position, ambulance transport to the hospital, and use intravenous hemostatic drugs as soon as possible. If you have ice at home, wrap ice in a towel and place it on the front of the chest on the side that is ill. Lie down on the affected side (the diseased side of the lung is underneath) or lie flat (both lungs are diseased or you don’t know which side is diseased), turn your head sideways and try to cough up the blood in the trachea and throat. Standing or sitting is not a good position for hemoptysis, so that the blood in the trachea is not easy to cough out. 5, pay attention to rest, ensure sufficient sleep, appropriate activities, avoid strenuous exercise. If the symptoms are serious in the acute stage, such as fever, hemoptysis, shortness of breath, etc., try to rest in bed; if the symptoms are mild in the acute stage, you can do light activities, such as eating, walking, walking, etc., and do not lie or sit for a long time. After 1-2 months of treatment, the symptoms improve significantly and you can lead a normal life, engage in lighter work and study, but you should not work too hard. Young people should pay special attention not to stay up late playing computer, very harmful. 6, pay attention to nutrition. This is the most important concern for patients. In fact, it is not necessary to take a big tonic, improperly taking a tonic is worse than not. Should pay attention to the nutrition of food and collocation, all kinds of meat (including poultry, livestock, fish), eggs, vegetables, fruits, staple foods, milk, soybean products, all kinds of food reasonable collocation on the line. In most cases there is no special taboo, except for the hot or big tonic mentioned above. But in some special cases, there are some instructions. For example, if you have a rash after eating a certain food, you may be allergic to that food, so you should not eat it again. If the combination of diabetes, you can not follow the principle of strengthening nutrition, but to control the diet to prevent excessive blood sugar. Combined with heart disease or kidney disease, you should not eat too much salt. There are also some people who take an anti-TB drug called pyrazinamide who experience elevated uric acid in the blood, similar to gout. In this case, it is necessary to eat less seafood and soy products, and take the alkaline drug sodium bicarbonate appropriately to alkalize the urine and prevent uric acid salts from crystallizing in the kidneys. In severe cases, take drugs for gout, such as allopurinol, or stop pyrazinamide. Generally pyrazinamide is not necessary after 2 months of use, and uric acid will drop soon after discontinuation, so there is no need to avoid the mouth. 7, the room should pay attention to open the window ventilation, keep the air fresh. 8, the acute period do not go to the crowded, air dirty place. For example, supermarkets, shopping malls, subways, mahjong rooms, Internet cafes, movie theaters, etc., for themselves, for others are not good. 9, avoid cold and flu, etc., because the cold when the immune system is reduced, may aggravate tuberculosis, or complicate the inflammation of the lungs. 10, develop good hygiene habits, do not spit anywhere, it is best to spit in a covered cup with disinfectant solution, and then pour it out after a few hours. Tuberculosis patients may have other diseases in combination, such as diabetes, chronic bronchitis and heart disease. Especially diabetes has a great impact on tuberculosis and must be treated actively.
