Adnexal cysts are cysts of the ovaries and fallopian tubes that can affect menstruation. When an adnexal cyst occurs in the ovaries, it is called an ovarian cyst. The ovaries secrete estrogen and progesterone, and when an ovarian cyst occurs, the level of the secreted hormones is unstable. This can lead to irregular menstrual cycles, delayed menstruation, low menstrual flow and amenorrhea. When a woman has an adnexal cyst, she must first be treated with anti-inflammatory drugs and pelvic physical therapy to make the cyst subside as much as possible. If it does not subside, ultrasound examination should be done regularly to observe the growth of adnexal cysts, and if they suddenly increase, twist or rupture, surgery can be used to remove them if necessary.
