Hypoglycemia in pregnancy may lead to fetal growth restriction and, in severe cases, intrauterine fetal death. Fetal birth weight is positively correlated with maternal blood glucose levels, and when a pregnant woman is hypoglycemic, this often leads to the development of a low birth weight baby. A low birth weight baby is a fetus that weighs less than 2500g at delivery, has a malnourished or overripe appearance, is disproportionate in growth, and has a length, head and neck that are consistent with gestational age but with a low birth weight. Severe hypoglycemia may also cause intrauterine fetal death, which is very dangerous. If hypoglycemia is found in pregnancy, the cause of hypoglycemia should be clarified and nutritional intake should be increased. If necessary, go to the hospital for treatment under the doctor’s care to improve hypoglycemia as early as possible and prevent adverse effects on the mother and child.
