Leg numbness may be caused by lumbar disc herniation, pyriformis syndrome, etc.; it can be treated with general treatment, physical therapy, medication, surgery, etc. according to the cause of the disease.
1. Lumbar disc herniation: if the patient has lumbar disc herniation, when the protruding nucleus pulposus presses on the nerve root, it will cause numbness of one side or both sides of the leg.
(1) General treatment: pay attention to rest, pay attention to protect the lumbar region, avoid heavy physical labor.
(2) Physical therapy: for example, heat therapy, traction, electrotherapy and so on.
(3) Drug treatment: anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving drugs, such as diclofenac sodium, can be applied to relieve pain. Nutritional nerve drugs, such as methylcobalamin, can also be applied.
(4) Surgical treatment: If the nerve compression is more serious and ineffective after conservative treatment, surgical treatment can be performed, such as minimally invasive intervertebral foramenoscopy surgery.
2. Piriformis syndrome: injury and inflammation of the piriformis muscle can cause compression of the sciatic nerve, thus causing radiating pain and numbness in the leg.
(1) General treatment: usually to develop good habits, avoid high-intensity exercise, so as not to aggravate the symptoms.
(2) Physical therapy: such as heat therapy, electrotherapy, ultrasound, manipulation therapy, etc..
(3) Drug treatment: commonly used are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as diclofenac sodium and other drugs that can play an anti-inflammatory role in pain; you can also use lidocaine, trimethoprim, etc. for closed treatment.
(4) Surgical treatment: if there is obvious nerve entrapment, after conservative treatment is invalid, you can do surgical treatment, such as pyriformis tendon cutting surgery.
Of course, there are other causes of leg numbness, should go to the hospital for further examination of the cause, and then targeted treatment, the above drugs need to be standardized under the guidance of the doctor.
