Types of insulin

Depending on the source and chemical structure, insulin can be categorized into animal insulin, human insulin and insulin analogs. Based on differences in action characteristics, insulin is further categorized into ultrashort-acting insulin analogs, regular (short-acting) insulin, intermediate-acting insulin, long-acting insulin, long-acting insulin analogs, premixed insulin, premixed insulin analogs, and bis-insulin analogs. Insulin analogs have similar efficacy in controlling blood glucose compared to human insulin, but are superior to human insulin in mimicking physiologic insulin secretion and reducing the risk of hypoglycemia. Patients with type 1 diabetes require insulin therapy at the onset of the disease and require insulin replacement therapy throughout life. Newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic patients with significant hyperglycemic symptoms, ketosis, etc. should be treated with insulin. After the glucose is well controlled and the symptoms are significantly improved, the subsequent treatment plan will be determined according to the condition. If insulin injection is needed, it is recommended to use it under the guidance of professional doctors in regular hospitals and avoid unauthorized use of medication. Blood glucose should also be monitored to avoid adverse reactions such as hypoglycemia.
