Does sputum mean pneumonia?

Having sputum does not necessarily mean pneumonia. There are many respiratory diseases that cause sputum, such as bronchitis, bronchiectasis, tuberculosis, lung cancer, and upper respiratory tract infections, so pneumonia cannot be diagnosed by having sputum alone. When patients present with increased sputum they can further refine their lung imaging and make a diagnosis based on the imaging findings. If the sputum is considered to be caused by pneumonia, you can choose sensitive anti-infective drugs for treatment through the results of sputum bacterial culture and drug sensitivity test, and you can choose cough expectorant drugs such as Ambroxol and Bromhexine, etc. You should also drink more water in general, which has the effect of diluting sputum, thus promoting sputum discharge.
