Tonsillectomy usually requires a hospital stay of 3 to 7 days, or longer, depending on the type of surgery and postoperative recovery.
1. Surgical method; if children undergo tonsillectomy generally faster postoperative recovery, postoperative if eating recovery, no other complications, hospitalization for about 3 days can be considered discharged; while adults undergo tonsillectomy postoperative reaction is heavier, bleeding risk is high, it is recommended to observe, treatment for 5 ~ 7 days before discharge.
2. Postoperative recovery: 5~7 days after tonsillectomy is the peak bleeding period. If bleeding and infection are complications after surgery, the hospitalization period should be extended appropriately and the patient should be discharged after stabilization of the condition.
In order to promote postoperative recovery, it is recommended to eat cold food as much as possible after the operation and follow the doctor’s instructions for medication.
