Hiccups in children may be caused by physiological factors, pathologic causes, such as central nervous system, peripheral neurological diseases. 1. Physiological factors: if a child eats too fast during meals, he or she will swallow a lot of air into the stomach, which will lead to hiccups, or the hiccups may be caused by diaphragmatic spasm induced by inhaling cold air. 2. Pathological causes: the more common is the central nervous diseases, such as brain tumor, hydrocephalus, encephalitis, may also be caused by peripheral nervous diseases, such as mediastinal tumors, pericarditis and so on.
