Sinusitis orbital pain can be caused by secretions and inflammatory factors that stimulate the endings of the ophthalmic branch of the trigeminal nerve, blockage of the frontal sinus and sieve sinus orifices to form a local negative pressure reflex, and intraorbital complications. Conservative and surgical treatments are chosen to relieve symptoms depending on the cause.
Since the sinuses are adjacent to the orbits, inflammation of the sinuses will cause the inflammation to radiate to the orbits, which in turn will cause pain in the orbits. Aggressive treatment of sinusitis to control the inflammation can mostly relieve orbital pain.
Anti-inflammatory treatment can choose penicillin or cephalosporins, oral or infusion of glucocorticoids to reduce the mucosal edema of the nasal cavity and sinuses to reduce orbital pain. Local application of vasoconstrictors can also be chosen to improve the congestion and edema of the nasal mucosa, thus reducing the compression of the orbital region and alleviating pain.
If orbital pain associated with intraorbital complications does not respond well to conservative treatment, surgical intervention may be pursued aggressively after evaluation by a physician.
Sinusitis orbital pain, should promptly go to the hospital ENT department, after professional doctor’s examination, and then determine the best treatment plan, so as not to delay the condition.
