Amphotericin B is a polyene antifungal drug, and its main mechanism of action is to inhibit fungal growth by combining with sterols on the cell membrane of sensitive fungi, damaging the permeability of the cell membrane and causing leakage of some important intracellular substances, thus destroying the normal metabolism of the cell. It is mainly used clinically for new Cryptococcus, Histoplasma, Cyclospora spp., Candida spp. and some Aspergillus spp. It is often used as the drug of choice in the treatment of Cryptococcus meningitis and Malneferium blueform, while skin and hair ringworm are mostly resistant. It has no effect on bacteria, rickettsiae, and also viruses, and the drug concentration achieved by the commonly used therapeutic amount has only an inhibitory effect on fungi.
