There are many reasons why the cartilage of the auricle becomes hard, and the common reasons are auricular pseudocyst, frostbite and auricular keloid.
1. Auricular pseudocyst: at the initial stage, it manifests itself as a localized bulge on the outer side of the auricle, which is obvious when there is more fluid accumulation, with clear boundaries and no pain, and there is a sense of distension, fluctuating sensation, burning sensation or itching sensation when the cyst is large. If the treatment is untimely, the shape of the auricle will be changed along with the growth of the cyst, and the recurrence of which will lead to localized fibrosis in the auricle, and the auricle cartilages will be hardened.
2. Frostbite: when the weather is cold, in order to keep warm, the auricle is repeatedly exposed to the cold and humid environment for a long time, which leads to vasoconstriction of the skin, ischemia and hypoxia, resulting in auricle purplish-red, swelling, hardness, itching and blistering.
3. Auricular keloid: mostly seen in patients with keloid, after the injury of the auricle, the local soft tissue abnormally proliferates, obviously beyond the site of the injury, appearing redness and hardness of the auricle, accompanied by tingling and itching.
There are other reasons for the hardening of the auricle cartilage, such as auricular chondritis, immune diseases, etc. It is recommended to go to the hospital in a timely manner, improve the examination to clarify the cause of the disease, and then give targeted treatment or therapy.
