What is an ingrown prepuce?

Intrusive prepuce is a serious complication in which the head of the penis is pressed after the foreskin or prepuce is strongly upturned and not reset in time, and the foreskin stenosis ring is embedded in the coronal groove. Due to the continuous compression of the narrow ring of the foreskin, the blood and lymphatic flow of the penis head is impaired, and the penis head gradually becomes edematous. If the embedded prepuce cannot be reset for a long time, it can lead to ischemic necrosis or even breakage of the penis head. The embedded prepuce is a serious complication caused by the prepuce, but the majority of the embedded prepuce seen in the clinic can be treated by resetting it by hand. Parents need to seek medical attention as soon as they discover that their child has an ingrown prepuce.

The indications for manual repositioning are: 1. no more than 24 hours of imposition, 2. no erosion, infection or gangrene of the foreskin or penile head. Contraindications are that the foreskin or head of the penis has obvious erosion, infection or gangrene. Generally no anesthesia is needed, and if necessary, penile root nerve block anesthesia is feasible. In the few cases where the manual repositioning fails, emergency dorsal circumcision or circumcision of the foreskin is required.
