Can breast cancer patients have sex?

This is a question that is often of concern and difficult for treated breast cancer patients to talk about. The answer is yes, you can! In the evaluation of the quality of life during breast cancer recovery, the quality of sexual life is one of the indicators to measure the recovery after surgery, and the recovery of sexual function, also reflects the recovery of the whole body condition. A proper sexual life is a kind of release of depression, reflecting the harmony between husband and wife and a happy mood, which can increase the body’s ability to resist diseases. When a patient finds out that she has breast cancer, she will be under great psychological pressure and fear for a period of time, and her attention will be focused on the disease, and her sexual demands will be reduced; meanwhile, the side effects brought by the treatment, such as the removal of breast, the weakness of chemotherapy, nausea, vomiting, hair loss, the suppression of ovarian function, the decrease of estrogen level, the dryness of vagina, etc., together with the husband’s worries, both spouses will have reduced sexual demands This is normal. This is normal and will gradually return with psychological adaptation, completion of the initial treatment, and the reduction or disappearance of side effects. When and how often is it appropriate to have sex? According to the survey data, in Western women, about half of the patients who had breast cancer surgery resumed their sexual life one month after discharge from the hospital, and about one third of the patients could gradually return to their pre-surgery sexual level; while in Chinese women, the number of sexual life after breast cancer surgery and chemotherapy was reduced by more than half. Those women who were able to initiate sex before surgery generally have no such desire or become passive after surgery. During the initial treatment period of breast cancer, the recovery and frequency of sex life should be based on your physical condition. If your body is still weak, you can postpone and reduce the frequency, and you should go with the flow of nature and act according to your ability, without forcing restraint or overdoing it. How to gradually restore a harmonious sex life? Sexual life is the bond between husband and wife, and it is equally important for breast cancer patients. First of all, both husband and wife should gradually eliminate the psychological pressure and the fear of cancer. The treatment effect of breast cancer is very satisfactory and the cure rate is very high, so they can put down the burden and enhance the confidence of treatment and recovery. During the treatment process, they should strengthen nutrition, appropriate activities and exercises to gradually recover their strength. Lubricant can be used for vaginal dryness. Actively create an environment for sex life, such as not using lights to avoid seeing the lack of body, relaxing music, a safe enough environment, and prolonging the induction time of sexual excitation. Especially, the husband should be patient, understanding and encouraging, and express your constant love in action and spirit. However, you should also pay attention to contraception. Can breast cancer patients transmit sex to each other? Breast cancer is not a contagious disease and cannot be transmitted from one person to another during sexual intercourse or through intimate contact. Therefore, you should not avoid or affect the quality of your sex life because you are worried about the infection. Will sex cause estrogen increase and breast cancer metastasis? During sex, there may be some slight changes in the hormones that maintain sexual activity (not much information is available), but such changes are not enough to cause recurrence and metastasis of breast cancer, and there are no reports of breast cancer recurrence and metastasis due to sex.
