What are the clinical manifestations of hepatic encephalopathy?



The clinical manifestations of hepatic encephalopathy are mainly divided into four stages. Prodromal stage is mainly behavioral and personality changes; pre-comatose stage is confusion and fluttering tremor, etc.; somnolence stage is lethargy and mental confusion; comatose stage is mainly coma.

1. Prodromal period: the earliest appearance of mild personality changes and behavioral disorders such as scribbling, sometimes happy and sometimes sad, can appear fluttering tremor.

2. Pre-coma: sleep disorder, confusion, behavioral disorders, such as day and night reversal, typical fluttering tremor.

3. Stupor stage: the main manifestations are drowsiness and mental confusion; the patient can be awakened from drowsiness and can answer questions when waking up, but there will be confusion and hallucinations; most of the time the patient is in drowsy state, and fluttering tremor can be seen.

4. Coma stage: complete loss of consciousness, can not be awakened. Those in light coma still have reaction, deep coma has no reaction to pain, and flutter-like tremor can not be elicited.
