How to treat high triglycerides and cholesterol in elderly people

Elderly people with high triglycerides and cholesterol can be treated by diet, exercise and medication as follows: 1. Dietary modification: It can be improved by adjusting dietary structure, developing low-salt and low-fat dietary habits, reducing the intake of edible oil, eating as little as possible or not eating fatty meat, pig’s trotters or animal offal, and avoiding high-carbon, spicy and stimulating foods. 2. Enhance exercise: Blood lipid level can be improved to some extent through moderate exercise, such as slow walking and tai chi. 3. Medication: Oral lipid-lowering drugs can be used for treatment. For hyperlipidemia with elevated triglycerides, beta-lipid-lowering drugs such as fenofibrate can be taken. If it is hyperlipidemia with mainly elevated LDL cholesterol, or hyperlipidemia with mainly elevated cholesterol, apply statin lipid-lowering drugs, such as simvastatin, tolvastatin, and so on. It should be noted that these two types of drugs are generally not recommended to be used at the same time, the above drugs need to be under the guidance of a doctor to avoid self-medication.
