What is the treatment for cholestasis?

Treatment options for cholestasis usually include medication, etiologic treatment, and liver transplantation.

When cholestasis occurs, if there is no bile duct obstruction, firstly, medication can be used, such as ursodeoxycholic acid, polyunsaturated phosphatidylcholine capsule, adenosylmethionine and so on, and the medication should be carried out under the guidance of professional doctors, and should not be used without authorization.

However, if the cholestasis is induced by other diseases, it needs to be treated for the cause of the disease, such as tumors, stones and so on. Tumors need to be removed through surgery and further treatment according to pathological results; stones need to be treated by choledochotomy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography and lithotripsy.

Some patients with particularly severe cholestasis, such as cirrhosis due to cholestatic hepatitis, can be completely treated with liver transplantation.

Patients with cholestasis need to go to the hospital in time to get a clear diagnosis and treatment plan, use medication under the guidance of the doctor, and avoid self-medication.
