Bleeding in middle-aged and older women years after menopause, what’s going on?



Bleeding after years of menopause in middle-aged and old women may be caused by cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, inflammation of reproductive tract and so on.

1. Cervical cancer: it can be manifested as irregular vaginal bleeding after menopause, and may also be accompanied by white or bloody watery or rice slop-like vaginal discharge with fishy smell, which can be clearly diagnosed by cervical cytology, HPV (human papillomavirus) test, colposcopy and cervical tissue biopsy.

2. Endometrial cancer: It mainly manifests as postmenopausal vaginal bleeding, usually in small amount, accompanied by bloody or plasma vaginal discharge, and when there is infection, there may be pus and blood foul-smelling discharge, and some of them may manifest as pain in the lower abdomen and lumbosacral region. Diagnosis can be made by combining history and clinical manifestations, ultrasonography, diagnostic curettage and hysteroscopy.

Bleeding after years of menopause in middle-aged and elderly women may also be caused by inflammation of the reproductive tract, such as geriatric vaginitis, it is recommended that patients must go to the hospital in a timely manner, under the guidance of the doctor to carry out relevant examinations to determine the cause of the disease, and actively treat the symptoms.
