Herbal Formulas for Amenorrhea

Common Chinese herbal formulas for the treatment of amenorrhea include Great Tonic Yuan Decoction, Zuo Gui Pill, Ten Tonic Pills, Ginseng Ling Bai Zhu San, Xiao Ying Decoction, Diaphragm Downward Expelling Blood Stasis Soup, and Warming Menstruation Soup.
1. Great tonifying Yuan Decoction. It is composed of ginseng, Chinese yam, ripened dihuang, eucommia, angelica, cornelian cherry and wolfberry. When amenorrhea is caused by deficiency of kidney qi, this medicine can be taken.
2. Zuo Gui Wan. It is composed of Chinese yam, ripened huangdi, cornelian cherry, wolfberry and hyssop. When amenorrhea is caused by kidney yin deficiency, this medicine can be taken for treatment.

4. Ginseng and Atractylodis Macrocephalae. It is composed of ginseng, Atractylodes macrocephala, Poria, lentil, licorice, Chinese yam, lotus seed meat, Platycodon grandiflorus, Semen coicis, and Semen aristolochiae, and can be taken if the amenorrhea is characterized by deficiency of the spleen.
5. Xiao Ying Decoction. It is composed of Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, Radix Paeoniae Alba, Fructus Lycii, Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae Praeparata and Radix et Rhizoma Polygonati.
6. Diaphragm Downward Blood Stasis Expelling Soup. It is composed of angelica, red peony, peach kernel, safflower, Citrus aurantium, Yanhuosuo, and Wu Lingyi, etc. It can be taken when amenorrhea is caused by Qi stagnation and blood stasis.
7. Wenjing Tang. It is composed of Angelica sinensis, Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum, Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong, Mudan Pi, Semixia, etc. It can be taken when amenorrhea is characterized by cold condensation and blood stasis.
