How to treat ringworm

Tinea corporis, also known as ringworm, is a type of skin disease caused by a fungal infection. A fungal microscopy as well as a culture can be done before treatment to clarify if it is ringworm. If it is, antifungal treatment can be given by applying topical clotrimazole ointment, or antifungal creams such as miconazole nitrate ointment or bifenazole ointment 1-2 times a day. If the symptoms are severe, oral itraconazole capsules or terbinafine hydrochloride tablets, fluconazole capsules, etc. can be taken. If there is local rupture and erosion followed by bacterial infection, anti-bacterial infection treatment should be administered first, followed by antifungal treatment. If the fungal microscopy is negative, it may be that the number of fungal hyphae is relatively low and can be treated with topical application of trimethoprim econazole cream, also known as paregoric pine ointment.
