An angiogram is strictly speaking only an examination, but an angiogram with simultaneous disease treatment is an interventional procedure. For example, if a coronary angiogram is performed for coronary artery disease, it can only be considered as a kind of examination if no stent is placed, because the angiogram itself is very invasive, similar to general invasive examinations, which are considered as surgery only if there are implants or removed tissues or structural changes. The imaging test is not a surgery if there is no change in tissue structure or implant. For example, if a coronary angiogram reveals a severe stenosis of the coronary artery and a stent is placed to dilate it or a plaque is rotated, the angiogram is transformed from a simple examination to an interventional procedure.
