Nail removal for gingivitis costs about$100. Groin infections are caused by repeated trimming of the nail into the flesh, resulting in infection and pus draining from the nail, and usually require extraction of the nail for treatment. Because the pus often accumulates underneath the nail, incision and drainage of the abscess is ineffective, and the nail needs to be removed in order to drain the pus to the outside. Nail extraction can be done on an outpatient basis. The nail is anesthetized with lidocaine on both sides of the finger, the nail is quickly turned to the side with vascular forceps, the nail is removed, the nail bed is pressed to stop the bleeding, and the wound is bandaged. Oral antibiotics, such as cefixime, are required after nail extraction. An outpatient dressing change is required the day after the nail extraction procedure.
