What’s wrong with blood in the urine after kidney stone surgery?

Postoperative bleeding in urine after kidney stone surgery is mostly related to the process of surgical lithotripsy that damages the mucosa of the urinary tract or excessive friction of the stent tube on the mucosa of the urinary tract.

The patient has a postoperative bloody stool, it is necessary to promptly understand the time after surgery, the amount of urine bleeding and other factors to identify.

1. Kidney stone surgery is through the percutaneous nephrolithotomy or through the ureteroscopy to fragmentation stone removal. Surgical lithotripsy can damage the mucous membrane of the urinary tract, usually 2-3 days after the operation, bleeding in the urine will gradually stop. So if there is blood in the urine within 3 to 5 days after the operation, it is a normal phenomenon.

2. If there is a small amount of bleeding after one week after the operation, it may be caused by excessive activity or strenuous activity after the operation.

3. After kidney stone surgery, you need to keep the ureter and stent tube, and the stent tube will cause bleeding by rubbing the mucous membrane of the urinary tract too much, which can be stopped by bed rest and drinking more water.

4. If there is a lot of bleeding after one week after the operation, it may be caused by rupture of renal blood vessels, and it is necessary to go to the hospital for abdominal ultrasound examination to clarify the condition.

Hematuria after kidney stone surgery may also be caused by other factors, patients are advised to go to regular hospitals for timely treatment. Patients should not eat spicy and stimulating food, spinach and tofu should not be eaten together, because spinach and tofu combine to form calcium oxalate, which leads to the recurrence of kidney stones. Smoking and drinking alcohol should be avoided after surgery, as this may increase the possibility of kidney stone recurrence.
