Mugwort leaves in the fall have some medicinal value.
Mugwort leaves are mostly picked in summer before the flowers bloom, and after being concocted, they are used in medicine. Mugwort leaves are the dried leaves of the plant Mugwort, family Asteraceae. It is pungent, bitter and warm in nature; it is slightly poisonous. It belongs to the liver, spleen and kidney meridians. It can warm the menstruation to stop bleeding, dispel cold and relieve pain; externally, it can dispel dampness and relieve itching.
Mugwort leaves can be used in treating hematemesis, epistaxis, metrorrhagia (excessive menstrual flow or more than a few drops), excessive menstrual flow, fetal leakage (a small amount of vaginal bleeding in early pregnancy), hyperemia, cold pain in the lower abdomen, irregular menstrual flow, cold uterine infertility, and externally for treating itching of the skin. Vinegar moxa charcoal warms menstruation and stops bleeding, used for deficiency cold bleeding.
Because of the warm nature of mugwort, it should be taken with caution for people with Yin deficiency and blood heat. It is recommended to use the medicine under the guidance of a doctor.
