The blowing test for H. pylori is done in the hospital by carbon 13 or carbon 14 breath test, which costs about$150. The test is performed by taking a capsule orally on an empty stomach, waiting for about 15 minutes to blow, and indirectly reflecting the active level of H. pylori by monitoring the amount of exhaled gas marker carbon 13 or carbon 14. The result of the test is not an indication of how much H. pylori infection is present, but only a reflection of whether H. pylori is active significantly or insignificantly. According to the results of the test, if the DPM is greater than 700, anti-H. pylori medication is required; DPM less than 200 can be reviewed regularly without special treatment. The course of treatment is about two weeks and then stop for one month and then recheck the carbon 13 or carbon 14 breath test.
