Arthroscopy steps

  1. Patients need to cooperate with the physician in the appropriate position. In case of shoulder and elbow joint examination, the patient should be placed in lateral position and the affected side should be placed outside and above for examination, or in beach chair position, i.e. the patient should be in semi-recumbent position and the weight of the upper limb should be used to open the shoulder joint gap; in case of hip and knee joint examination, the patient should be placed in flat position; in case of wrist, metacarpophalangeal and interphalangeal joint examination, the patient should be placed in supine position; 2. According to the doctor’s request, the patient should cooperate with the use of tourniquet; 3. 3. To stop the bleeding, the doctor needs to inject a solution into the joint cavity, mainly saline or Ringer’s solution; 4. The patient needs to remain quiet and relaxed and cooperate with the doctor in cutting the skin with a small sharp knife; 5. After the examination, the doctor removes the arthroscope and gently presses the examination site with his hand to help the injected solution to drain, and puts the adhesive tape and pressure dressing on top of the incision, and the patient needs to listen to the doctor’s request throughout the examination.
