A 24-hour urine protein lab test usually represents a 24-hour urine protein quantitative test value. Usually, the normal value of 24-hour urine protein quantification is less than 150mg, which is elevated to indicate the presence of urinary protein in the urine. There are physiologic as well as pathologic causes of urinary protein, which need to be combined with the patient’s medical history, and the results of electrophoresis of urinary protein may even require a renal puncture biopsy to help determine.
1. Physiological reasons are more common in the case of strenuous exercise, fever, etc. At this time, the urine protein will be mildly over the standard, but after rest, treatment, urine protein will soon return to normal.
2. Pathological conditions are mainly seen in a variety of primary glomerulonephritis, secondary nephropathy, such as microscopic lesions, membranous nephropathy, IgA nephropathy, diabetic nephropathy, lupus nephritis and so on.
In addition to the causes of urinary tract infections and stones can also cause elevated urinary protein, but the patient will have other manifestations, such as elevated white blood cells and red blood cells in the urine routine, accompanied by urinary frequency, urinary urgency, urinary pain, lumbago and so on. Most urinary proteins will return to normal after the cause is removed.
A small number of tall, thin adolescents may also have mildly elevated urine protein due to compression of the left renal vein.
Once the quantitative elevation of 24-hour urine protein, it is recommended that the patient go to the hospital in time, and follow the doctor’s instructions need to improve other related examinations, such as urine protein profile, renal function, related antibodies, urinary ultrasound, etc., and even need to carry out renal puncture biopsy if necessary, to clarify the pathological diagnosis, and timely treatment.
