Is a perianal abscess serious?

Perianal abscess is an abscess formed by infection of the perianal space or soft tissues. An anal fistula can be formed after the abscess is cut or ruptured, and it is generally difficult to heal on its own, so perianal abscess is more serious.
Most perianal abscesses are caused by anal gland infection, and the infection spreads to the loose connective tissue in the perianal space to form an abscess. The main manifestations are perianal swelling, persistent throbbing pain, etc. Generally speaking, systemic symptoms, such as fever, chills, etc. are not obvious, and pus can be extracted by puncture after abscess formation.
About 70% of abscesses can form anal fistula after incision and drainage, complex anal fistula is currently one of the intractable diseases of anorectal surgery; persistent infection spread of perianal abscess can cause septicemia or infectious shock and other life-threatening, so perianal abscess is relatively serious.
Perianal abscess should go to regular medical institutions for surgical treatment once it occurs, so as not to aggravate the disease.
