Symptoms of late stage of HIV are mainly human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-related symptoms, neuropsychiatric symptoms, enlarged lymph nodes, various opportunistic infections and tumors.
The post-infection process of HIV is categorized into acute phase, asymptomatic phase and AIDS phase. The AIDS stage is the final stage after infection with the virus, that is, the late stage of AIDS, in which the CD4+ lymphocytes of the patients decline significantly.
1. HIV-related symptoms: fever > 1 month; night sweats; diarrhea; weight loss ≥ 10% within 6 months.
2. Neuropsychiatric symptoms: headache, dementia, memory loss, personality change, etc.
3. Persistent generalized lymph node enlargement: duration >3 months; diameter ≥1 cm without pressure; ≥2 sites of lymph node enlargement (except groin).
4. Various opportunistic infections: tuberculosis, Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia, Toxoplasma gondii infection, herpes virus infection, etc.
5. Tumors: Kaposi’s sarcoma, lymphoma and so on.
Patients should be actively treated in regular hospitals to delay disease progression, prevent serious complications and improve the quality of survival.
