Redness and swelling of the fistula is considered to be caused by infection of the intestinal tract. Patients should be advised to maintain personal hygiene, pay attention to cleaning and disinfection, use local antibacterial drugs, and if it continues to worsen, intravenous antibiotic therapy is recommended.
Early surgical treatment of colon cancer is very important for the prognosis of patients. Patients with colon cancer defecate through a fistula, which is an artificial anus that is less resistant to infection than a normal anus. If the patient does not pay attention to personal hygiene and is not able to clean and disinfect well, the longer it takes to cause the possibility of intestinal infection increases.
Patients are advised to maintain personal hygiene, not to eat too spicy and oily food, to flush and disinfect the stoma regularly every day, to apply zinc chloride to the skin to prevent dermatitis, and to apply erythromycin topically if the redness and swelling is mild.
