Adenoid hypertrophy is mostly seen in children, blocking the posterior nostril and the pharyngeal orifice of the eustachian tube can cause different symptoms, such as secretory otitis media leading to hearing loss and tinnitus. Then there is nasal congestion, runny nose, snoring during sleep, and in severe cases, sleep apnea. Others can cause complications of bronchitis. If adenoid hypertrophy is prolonged, it can also cause the typical adenoid face. Long-term unrelieved adenoid hypertrophy can also cause mental inactivity and unresponsiveness in children, as well as chronic sleep deprivation, resulting in insufficient oxygen supply to the brain and affecting intelligence and growth.
