Can you breastfeed if you have diarrhea?

Whether or not breastfeeding is possible when you have diarrhea needs to be looked at in different situations.
1. Breastfeeding is allowed: If the diarrhea is caused by cold or indigestion, and the symptoms are not serious, breastfeeding can be continued. Pregnant women should pay attention to rest, drink plenty of warm water, pay attention to abdominal warmth, eat a light diet, avoid spicy, cold and other foods.
2. Suspension of breastfeeding: If a mother has diarrhea due to food poisoning, bacterial or viral acute gastroenteritis, etc., and the discharged stool has pus or mucous blood, accompanied by fever, electrolyte disorders, etc., antibacterial and antiviral treatments may be needed, and some of the medications may affect the baby through breast milk, so it is recommended to suspend breastfeeding.
