Self-examination of bleeding gums

Gum bleeding is one of the most common complaints of patients with periodontal disease, and it can be said that most people have more or less bleeding gums at some time. In the face of bleeding gums, some people feel indifferent, some suspect that there is something wrong with the blood, and some even think that brushing leads to bleeding gums, and instead use the method of stopping brushing to prevent bleeding gums, what exactly is the right thing to do?      Most of the clinical gum bleeding is caused by periodontal disease. Gum bleeding related to periodontal disease is mostly manifested as irritative bleeding, that is, bleeding when the gums are stimulated by brushing or biting hard objects, but occasionally there is also spontaneous bleeding, that is, bleeding when there is no stimulation, for example, some patients have gum bleeding when they sleep. The amount of bleeding is usually small and will stop on its own in a short time. After periodontal treatment, this gum bleeding is very effectively relieved.      It is very wrong to prevent bleeding gums by stopping brushing, because this will lead to further accumulation of tartar and plaque, which will stimulate the inflammation of the gums to increase, and after a period of time the bleeding gums will instead get worse.      Only very few patients have gum bleeding related to blood disorders, and the characteristics of such gum bleeding are also different from those of periodontal disease. The manifestations are mostly spontaneous bleeding that does not stop on its own for a long time and may be accompanied by subcutaneous bleeding spots or petechiae in other parts of the body.      It is worth noting that many middle-aged and elderly people now take anticoagulant drugs to prevent cardiovascular accidents, and these drugs can sometimes aggravate gum bleeding, especially in patients with periodontitis, and the bleeding will worsen and not stop easily.      In short, patients with bleeding gums should not be nervous, most of them have periodontal disease. You can check yourself from the amount of bleeding, whether it is irritating or not, and whether it can stop on its own, and go to the hospital as soon as possible for appropriate treatment.
