Chinese medicines for tonifying blood and qi mainly include three forms: Chinese herbal tonics, proprietary Chinese medicines and Chinese medicinal tablets, and patients are advised to take them as prescribed by their doctors.
1. Traditional Chinese medicine soup: the classic formula for tonifying blood is Four Substances Soup, which contains Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Radix Paeoniae Alba and Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong; the classic formula for tonifying qi is Four Gentlemen Soup, which contains Radix Panax Ginseng, Poria, Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, Radix Glycyrrhizae Praeparata, and Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae Praeparata; and the classic formula for tonifying qi and blood is Ba Zhen Tang, which contains the same eight Chinese medicines from Four Gentlemen and Four Substances Soups plus ginger and dates
2. Proprietary Chinese medicines: Commonly used proprietary Chinese medicines include Tonifying Pill, Ba Zhen Pill, Gui Spleen Pill, and Ginseng Nourishing Glory Pill, all of which are able to tonify qi and blood.
3. Chinese herbal medicines: Chinese herbal medicines commonly used to tonify blood include Paeonia lactiflora, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, Colla Corii Asini, etc. Those used to tonify qi include various kinds of ginsengs, Astragalus, Atractylodes Macrocephalae, and Chinese yam.
If patients have symptoms such as swollen and painful gums and mouth and tongue sores during the period of taking the medicine, it means that it is not suitable for the treatment of qi and blood tonic, therefore, patients need to consult a doctor to clarify the underlying causes of qi deficiency, blood deficiency and qi and blood deficiency, to carry out symptomatic treatment, and to take the corresponding medicines as prescribed by the doctor.
