Pregnancy is usually not recommended during and after treatment of the disease, but in case of unplanned pregnancy after medication, it is necessary to consult an obstetrician/gynecologist for professional advice. Medications used to treat facial paralysis include corticosteroids (e.g., dexamethasone, prednisone), antiviral medications (e.g., acyclovir), neurotrophic medications (e.g., vitamin B1, vitamin B12), and dibazole. There is a lack of clinical trials of some medications in women during pregnancy and gestation, and there are still many unknowns about their effects on pregnancy, so for eugenic considerations it is recommended that pregnancy be carried out 3 months after recovery from the disease and the end of the medication. Therefore, it is not recommended to get pregnant immediately after taking medication for facial paralysis, but to inform the doctor about the medication used and to follow the doctor’s advice in case of an unwanted pregnancy.
