Treatment of sciatica begins with identifying the cause and treating it differently depending on the cause. If the sciatica is caused by a herniated lumbar disc compressing a nerve, traction of the lumbar spine and oral nerve-nourishing medications can be used to relieve the symptoms of sciatica. If the sciatica is caused by pear-shaped muscle syndrome, local physiotherapy or closure therapy and oral nerve-nourishing medication are required. If the sciatica is caused by inflammation of the sciatic nerve itself, such as an infection of the sciatic nerve, or a lesion of the sciatic nerve itself, the symptoms of sciatica are relieved. In this case, it is necessary to go to a neurologist for treatment with nerve-nourishing drugs and, if necessary, surgery. If peripheral neuralgia is caused by compression of the nerve due to a herniated lumbar disc, as a result of which conservative treatment does not provide relief, surgical treatment may also be required.
