The Cataract Point is located in the neck, behind the earlobe, in the depression between the lower end of the mastoid process anteriorly and the mandible. It has the efficacy of dispersing wind, clearing heat, and facilitating the passage of orifices, and is mainly used for the treatment of deafness, tinnitus, crookedness of the mouth and eyes, swelling of the cheeks, and scrofula (mainly referring to tuberculosis of the lymph nodes in the neck), and so on.
Cataract Point is one of the commonly used acupoints in the Sanjiao Meridian of the Shao Yang of the hand, with the efficacy of dispersing wind, clearing heat and facilitating the passage of orifices, and is mainly used for treating scrofula, deafness, tinnitus and other ear diseases, as well as distortion of the mouth and eyes, buccal swellings, toothache, facial pain and other facial and oral diseases.
It is commonly used in modern clinics for treating mumps, neural deafness, trigeminal neuralgia, toothache, jaw arthritis and so on.
When taking the acupuncture point, take the sitting or side lying position, fully expose the ear, find the position of the lower end of the mastoid process behind the earlobe, and ask the examinee to open the mouth, the depression behind the ear is this point.
