A long eye axis is not necessarily myopia.
Myopia is a common type of refractive error, and it is possible for a long eye axis to cause myopia, known as axial myopia, a type of true myopia.
However, not all cases of axial lengthening result in myopia because myopia is not only related to the length of the eye axis, but also to the refractive power of the refractive interstitium of the eye. Therefore, it is possible that even in patients who present with an elongated eye axis, myopia may not be present.
If you suspect myopia because your eyes are getting longer, you should go to the ophthalmology department of a hospital for a checkup. The doctor will diagnose myopia through an optometry test and provide you with further treatment and advice on how to live with myopia.
